“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.
John 15:9
Your “come from” is the most important place to begin. Just as the Spirit of God whisked Elijah away to the ravine in 1 Kings 17, where he was fed, strengthened, nourished, and revived, so must you go to this hidden place with the Lord. Allow him to tenderize your soul so you can respond it loving obedience to him.
When God says “begin again,” you know you are walking with him as his son or daughter. Not as a “tool.” God doesn’t use us. In fact he doesn’t even need our help. He wants us to enter into the dwelling place of his love, where we can bear fruit, showing ourselves to be his true disciples.
Rid yourself of fear, shame and pride as you become aware of such things.
Confess your love and dependance upon him.
Now you are ready to begin again.
Start Filling the Jars
In 2 Kings 4, Elisha, Elijah’s protege, came to the widow of one in the company of prophets. She was in financial trouble. Elisha came prepared to help. He expected a miracle.
He asked her, “What do you have in your house?”
In other words, what do you have that we can work with?
She had a small bit of olive oil.
And Elisha had a plan.
She gathered all the jars she could find from friends and neighbors. As many as possible.
Then the oil started flowing.
She closed the door and got to work, with her sons right beside her.
The oil was enough to pay off her debts and to live on after.
I am speaking this over your life today.
Expect Miracles
Use what you have in your house. Close the doors, and get to work. Don’t look to or listen for the approval of others, tune out the naysayers, critics, those whom God has given a different path.
Gather the support of your close friends and community, those who believe in you and want to see you succeed. Some will feel threatened by your dreams, ideas, and success. They are on their own journey, and they are not your inner circle.
Get your family on board by sharing the vision with them. Answer the question, “whats in it for me?” and then get to work.
In Summary
Step 1:
Make a Decision. Mindset is crucial. Attach faith to your decision to begin again. I find it helpful to use a body, soul and spirit approach. Clear your head by getting a good sweat on. Take a long walk. Ask the Lord for a prophetic word or scripture. Take this word, and write it down daily. Post it on your bathroom mirror. Pray it out loud. Declare it. Sing it. Memorize it.
Step 2:
Take Immediate Action. When a thought comes to mind, write it down. Text or tell someone trustworthy, who can believe with you, your new idea or goal. The idea here is to take a step towards your new idea or goal. I’ve benefited from Mel Robbins’ 5 Second Rule, which helps stop overthinking and hesitation. It helps you to jump into action, be bold and follow your intuition. In essence, The 5 Second Rule explains how you can create change in your life by just counting down from five to one over the course of five seconds and acting when you reach one.
Step 3:
Build a Support System. You need external support in the form of community. Find a prayer partner, a networking group, a mentor, or a coach. You’re also going to develop your internal support by creating and dialing in good habits.
Your habits are the essence of what your daily life is made of, so you want to create good ones. Healthy rhythms will sustain you in all seasons of your business or ministry. Learn to make agreements with yourself, and then keep your word. If you decided to rise early, then prep the coffee the night before, and do it. If you decide to exercise daily, then put your shoes and clothes out where you will see them and be reminded to do it.
Create a short list of 15-20 minute tasks that can be accomplished using a timer. Create boundaries around your priories, and follow kingdom principles which is God first, family second, and your business or ministry third. This one will always be challenged, and you will need to guard it with vigilance.
Final Thoughts
The hardest part is taking that first step. You can do this. Once you begin again, don’t stop. We are moving towards consistency and momentum. The beauty of it is, you get to work in tandem with the Holy Spirit, and listen to his leading, times, and seasons. Attach faith to your decisions, and do not lose sight of hope.
